Avid Bouldering Competition
Avid_climbing
We’ve got our competition coming up on 27th November and we’re getting excited!
We understand that the idea of competitions can seem daunting but we promise, competitions are fun to enter regardless of your skill or age!
There is no age limit for our competition, meaning that everyone from the youths to seniors can give it a go!
Climbing competitions are all about fun and problem solving, with the incentive of a possible prize, giving a little more motivation to your climbs. It doesn’t matter if you’re not the strongest or most experienced climber either, as climbing competitions will also feature some fun and interesting one-off routes that are great fun to try out, regardless of points!
We also love the camaraderie of climbing competitions as you’ll get lots of people coming down from different centres and those who train on different days, meaning you really get to see the whole community and those from farther afield. This also means that the finals are fun and dynamic to watch, with everyone cheering competitors on.
Competitions also give you a clear aim and guidelines and can help mix up your climbing session with a new format.
We can’t wait to see you all there, so save the date in your diary and get training! We’ll be releasing more details over the coming weeks.

Harrocomp, Harrowall
This is a self-scoring comp – just turn up, grab a scorecard (available from 13:00, returned by 17:00), and tick them off as you go! What’s more, the Fun Comp prizes are awarded by raffle – tick off at least one climb and submit your orange Fun Comp score card to be in for a chance to win.
There is no additional cost for attending this comp, just the usual entry to the wall. So, if it’s your first time, come along and give it a bash! If you’re a monthly member, you get full entry to the event under your membership

CWIF – THE RAB CWIF 2020
THE RAB CWIF 2020 REGISTRATION
REGISTRATION OPENS AT 12 NOON ON MONDAY 3RD FEBRUARY 2020
There is a £10 entry fee for CWIF competitors which must be paid on registration – with 450 competitors handling payments on the day would slow sign in down and cut into competition time.
This fee is waived for those with Annual & Monthly Memberships (i.e. prepaid entries still valid on 14th March 2020, but NOT ’12 for 10s’), GB Team members (including the Development Squad) & athletes sponsored by CWIF Sponsors. Please get in touch before registering if you are unsure.
QUALIFICATION SESSIONS:
Below is the time of each session. We will aim to get everyone into their preferred session but cannot guarantee any choices until after registration closes as we need to balance the numbers between each session.
SESSION 1: 0900-1200
This session is intended for the most serious competitors who are likely to reach Semi Finals to give the most recovery time before Sunday so we get the best show possible!
If you’re entering mainly for fun, please check out Session 3!
SESSION 2: 1300-1600
This is for those who don’t climb well in the morning but are aiming for the Semi Finals.
We are also making this a special session for those Youth Academies / 14-17 y/o climbers who want to have some of the best climbers in the UK and abroad offer advice and beta for climbing the same problems they have just done.
SESSION 3 (CANNOT QUALIFY FOR SEMI FINALS – SEE BELOW): 1700-2000
Just like previous years this time slot is for those who want to have maximum fun at The Rab CWIF. We’ll be having DJ’s and 5 special ‘off-piste’ circuit problems in this last session. There are prizes for the best team fancy dress and some of the off-piste problems may require it (Rab 8000m suits & boxing gloves are common fixtures in the off-piste circuit!). This is the fun session!
REALLY IMPORTANT NOTE – Competitors in Session 3 will CANNOT QUALIFY to the Semi Finals in 2020. If you think there is a chance you will score highly enough to make it through to the Semis, register for Session 1 or 2! We’ve only ever had 1 person qualify from this session in the last 4 years. This means we can judge the harder blocs in the first 2 sessions without needing judges for a full 11 hours on Saturday keeping them a bit sharper for Sunday and lets us publish confirmed Semi Finalist lists sooner without having to process the session 3 scores at the end of a long day.
QUALIFICATION CIRCUIT:
The qualifying sessions will consist of a brand new circuit of 30 blocs in the grade range of Font5+ to Font7c.
A rough breakdown of the circuit is: 8 blocs from Font 5+ to Font 6b+; 12 blocs Font 6c to Font 7a; 10 blocs Font 7a+ to Font ‘hard’.
The holds will be from our Rab CWIF sponsors X-Cult, Beta Setting, Axis, Entre-Prises, Lapis, Nomad Volumes, Rockcity Climbing Holds, Squadra Holds & Wataaah! providing a selection of beautifully crafted holds for you to try hard on.
As usual Saturday is the Qualification Circuit with 2 qualifying sessions and a fun evening round for those who aren’t aiming for the Semis & Finals.
Semis & Finals take place on Sunday with limited on site spectator space & will be streamed live.

Highball TBC
We created the [TBC] Comp series to cater for the majority of people who use our centre – those climbing up to Font 6b. It’s a fun competition for all ages, perfect for people who are relatively new to climbing or those who don’t take it too seriously – but still like a challenge!
It runs bimonthly (Usually from 6:30pm) and is a great way to measure your progress – just compare your score from the previous event – and also pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses, helping you to focus your training in a positive way – if that’s what you want to do. The Highball Crew will set 30 problems around the centre, graded from font 3 to 6b (our circuits 0-3), and you have up to 3 hours to complete as many as you can. Scorecards are just £2 and each Comp has an opportunity for cash prizes and sometimes giveaways from sponsors too.
Of course, you could just enter for the fun, it’s a really great social event!
