I’m a competitive climber and ex-GB Bouldering Team member who LOVES climbing! I also offer indoor rock climbing lessons for all ages and abilities.
I first went climbing when I was 13 at the Castle Climbing Centre in North London. I began with weekly lessons until I was old enough to come to the Centre on my own a year later, at which point I essentially moved in for the next few years, climbing almost every day for several hours. This wasn’t because of a fierce determination to become the best or anything like that, I just REALLY liked it.
I started competing when I was about 14, sometimes having huge amounts of fun and climbing well, but occasionally leaving a competition early in an almighty sulk, feeling as though I had climbed terribly but determined to get better for the next one. I have improved a lot since then, having won the British Universities Bouldering Championships in 2013, the Christie Cup in 2012 and 2013, as well as competing in the finals of many other competitions.
I also managed to climb a few things outdoors whilst studying Pharmacology at the University of Leeds; Zoo York at Caley Roadside (V11), The Keelhaul (V11) at Almscliff, and exactly one outdoor sport climb, Comedy (7c) at Kilnsey. I have focused almost entirely on Bouldering rather than Trad or Sport for most of the time I have been climbing, for me this sport is all about trying to pull off the most impossible looking moves whilst making it look graceful and easy.
I have recently become a member of the British Bouldering Team, and so with any luck will be competing in the World Cup this year, and I also hope to get outdoors more and climb some more hard problems! Wish me luck
